An early competetion we completed for the Setouchi Triennale 2019.

Before the digital age one might ask people for a recommendation before visiting a place. Maybe one would get recommended a special route through the forest; leading to a clearing overlooking the water and its horizon. Maybe they would recommend a small bench resting under an old oak tree. They would empathize how the tree offered the perfect amount of shadow and cover from the wind.

Weather a bench, is situated in a natural setting or in the city it offers a situation of rest and an orientation of the body; towards something specific.

We understand the bench as metaphor for traditional experi-ence. Hence, at the extremses, a digital metaphor could similiar be translated to a ‘dropped pin’ in Google Maps.

As a response, we propose to assemble a large platform consisting of 100 chairs situated on a central port connecting the islands. The visitors are invited to take a chair with them on their journey to the Setouchi Triennale 2019. The manual describes the intention that one is to find their personal special place throughout the festival, assemble their chair, sit there for a while and then leave it for future visitors to share their perspective of the landscape and the festival.
