Archival Studies was commissioned to design a series of inventory for a newly refurbished 1970s Friis & Moltke family home in Aarhus, Denmark. The project included the design, production, and installation of a kitchen island, walk-in closet, study shelving, and bathroom elements. Materials were carefully selected to highlight the rich materiality of this Danish modernist architectural gem. The Shelf 02 echoes key architectural features of the original home. Its glass-blasted surface creates a subtle dialogue with the textured brick walls, establishing visual and material cohesion. The same finish was applied to the four-meter-long Kitchen Island 07, which functions as the home's sculptural centerpiece. Kitchen 07 is based on Archival Studies’ modular system of laser-cut, bent, and bolted stainless steel. With all functions integrated into its body, it supports an intuitive, social approach to cooking, while connecting visually and tactically to the surrounding architecture. Inspired by the home's original black-painted wood details, two Wardrobe 04 units were installed opposite each other to form a spacious walk-in closet. Built from Archival’s plywood furniture system, each unit includes sliding doors, integrated lighting, clothing rails, drawers, and shelving. Together, they act as both storage and spatial dividers — a contemporary interpretation of the home's intrinsic features. Lastly, a pair of custom steel washbasins was designed and installed in the bathrooms. Made from laser-cut and welded steel sheets with a soft white powder-coated finish, their minimalist form contrast the textured brickwalls - revealing what was and what was added.
